Enhancing Work-Life Balance with Year-Round Outdoor Comfort at The Boardwalk

The Boardwalk

Located in the heart of Irvine, Southern California’s business hub, The Boardwalk, managed by CBRE, is a luxury office complex designed to redefine the workday with beautifully crafted outdoor spaces that inspire productivity. To achieve this vision, they looked beyond the traditional office walls and embraced a resort-style environment that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces. The Boardwalk sought Bromic’s outdoor heating expertise to enhance the comfort of its outdoor areas, allowing patrons to enjoy these spaces throughout the year.

Blurring the Lines Between Work and Relaxation

With a vision to create a work environment that catered to a contemporary workforce, their goal was to move beyond the confines of a traditional office by offering flexible and inspiring outdoor spaces that would enhance employee well-being and productivity. To achieve this, a courtyard was developed that serves as an extension of the office, blurring the lines between work and relaxation.

Set to reflect Southern California’s coastal lifestyle and resort experience, The Boardwalk needed a heating solution that would be both aesthetically pleasing and functional. In response to these needs, Bromic’s Platinum Electric heaters were specified for their durability and sleek design to transform this two-acre courtyard into a multi-use space that fosters collaboration, relaxation, and year-round enjoyment.

The 304-grade stainless steel chassis and shot-tinted ceramic glass screen provide a sleek, modern look that complements the overall design of the outdoor meeting spaces.

A Multi-Use Oasis

With Bromic Platinum E heaters installed within the pergolas, The Boardwalk’s courtyard has become a vibrant hub for various purposes. With its main use as a workspace, its outdoor space can function as an outdoor workplace where employees can utilize the heated outdoor space for meetings, brainstorming sessions, or individual work, fostering a more relaxed and collaborative environment. The Boardwalk also offers an onsite restaurant along with a cafe in its main building, and the outdoor courtyard offers employees and visitors alike a space to enjoy their meals. The comfortable warmth provided by the heaters allows employees to take a step outside for their breaks outdoors, promoting work-life balance and reducing stress.

The balance of work-life

The Boardwalk serves as a prime example of how thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces can enhance work-life balance and inspire employee well-being. By incorporating Bromic Platinum Electric heaters, The Boardwalk has created a multi-use haven that extends the office experience beyond traditional walls, fostering collaboration, relaxation, and a vibrant community atmosphere.

Welcoming Guests with the Warmth of Mexican Hospitality

Creating a Year-Round Outdoor Dining Experience

Nestled in the heart of North Orange County, Patina Restaurant Group launches two sister restaurants that sit adjacent from one another. Centrico and Paseo have made waves within the culinary community for its vibrant embodiment of Mexican culture, spearheaded by Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán. From his humble beginnings in Mexico to earning accolades such as the James Beard Award, Chef Gaytán’s culinary prowess is now showcased at Centrico and Paseo alongside Bromic’s Platinum Gas Heaters.

Bringing Latin Flavors and Hospitality to Orange County

Centrico is more than a restaurant; it’s a social hub where people come together to create unforgettable memories. Designed with custom wooden elements and lush greenery by renowned Mexican architect Jorge Gracia, Centrico captures the spirit of a Mexican hacienda. The open, airy spaces invite guests to immerse themselves in the present moment, surrounded by the warmth and vibrancy of not only Mexican culture, but also the sleek Platinum Gas Heaters used throughout.

Bromic Heaters: Enhancing the Dining Experience

At Centrico, guest comfort is paramount. The open-air design of the restaurant provides a unique dining experience, but it also presents challenges in maintaining a comfortable temperature. This is where Bromic heaters come into play. The Platinum 300 and 500 natural gas heaters were chosen to provide optimal heating coverage while blending seamlessly with the restaurant’s aesthetic.

Ignisio Studios, the architectural and engineering firm leading the project, worked with the Patina Restaurant Group for three years to create and finish Centrico and Paseo. The project was led by Duc Tran, one of the firm’s principals and the project’s architectural and engineering Lead. The primary challenge lay in the ceiling design. As Duc explains, “The complexity resided primarily within the ceiling. Recognizing the intricate nature of the project, we reached out to Bromic. Their team promptly visited our office for a design charrette, providing us with a comprehensive range of options. This invaluable input enabled us to effectively present detailed plans to the Patina Restaurant Group, clearly outlining the functionality and rationale behind our design choices.”

Discretion is in the Design

Bromic heaters are not just functional but also discreet, ensuring that the design integrity of both Centrico and Paseo is maintained. Frank Moreno, Vice President of West Coast Operations, shares, “Centrico specifically was designed to optimize the guest experience.” Its open-air concept features a central bar with tables that surround the space, wrapping it completely around 360. Frank continues,  ”

The flexibility in mounting the heaters and their superior heating range make them the perfect choice for Centrico. Duc Tran further explains, “We decided to go with Bromic’s Platinum 300 and 500 natural gas [heaters]. The range of heating provided all the coverage that we needed. Bromic provided the flexibility of how it was mounted into the ceiling. This helped our team meet fire ratings per code.”

Southern California is known to have beautiful weather year-round, making it ideal for al-fresco dining. It was imperative in the design plans for both Centrico and Paseo to have a space that would be comfortable no matter the season. Blake Petty, Bromic Specification Business Developer, worked closely with Duc to ensure his plans and visions came to fruition. A key feature for this installation was the double mounted Platinum gas heaters, ensuring that all guests would be warm and not skipped over if seated at a different table.

A Warm Welcome Awaits

For Frank Moreno, the decision to partner with Bromic was clear: “In my career, I’ve opened many other different restaurants, I think 30 to 40 in all, I lost count. Why we chose Bromic for this project was because they provided that warmth and comfort for our guests without being intrusive to the design of the building, which is spectacular.” Guests at Centrico and Paseo can enjoy a relaxing time enjoying its culinary offerings and cultural ambiance. With its year-round style of outdoor dining, guests can enjoy the warmth and comfort of this open-air restaurant with Bromic Heaters.

Embracing Nature’s Elegance: Ambiente Sedona

Nestled in the red rocks of Arizona, Ambiente Sedona is a sanctuary that invites guests to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty and spiritual essence of the region. This resort style hotel has been meticulously designed to offer a seamless blend of modern luxury and natural splendor, ensuring a year-round connection to Sedona’s enchanting atmosphere. A key feature that enhances this year-round experience is the integration of the outdoor and indoor spaces.

When thinking of desert landscapes, one often imagines hot temperatures, but that’s not always the case. From fall to spring, temperatures in Sedona can drop drastically, leaving many seeking warmth. To encourage year-round enjoyment of its stunning outdoor spaces, Ambiente Sedona partnered with Bromic to ensure guest comfortability. Bromic’s design team collaborated with Ambiente to strategically place heaters that seamlessly blend into the architecture, enhancing both comfort and ambiance in the hotel’s outdoor areas.

Design Inspiration and Harmony

The design philosophy at Ambiente Sedona marries mordern architecture with the surrounding desert landscape of Sedona. With the vast desert and red rocks surrounding the area, it is important to integrate the design into the landscape itself. As Jennifer May, co-owner of Ambiente, notes, “Our design aesthetic at Ambiente embodies a fusion of Modern Minimalism with Nature as its muse. We sought sleek, contemporary elements that seamlessly melded with the surrounding natural beauty.” The search was on to find a heating solution that was not only powerful enough to combat the cold desert temperatures but also aesthetically pleasing. When it came to choosing outdoor heating solutions, Bromic was the natural choice.

Bromic’s sleek, contemporary heaters seamlessly integrate with Ambiente’s design aesthetic, enhancing the overall visual appeal while providing exceptional functionality. The sophisticated designs of Bromic heaters complement the hotel’s modern elements, maintaining the harmony between built environments and nature. Eclipse heaters were installed in the main communal areas for guests to enjoy the outdoors as they sipped on beverages or after a dip in their pool area.

Ambiente’s layout strikes a harmonious balance between private sanctuaries and communal hubs, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Bromic’s Eclipse heaters are installed over cozy couches and near inviting firepits, creating intimate settings where guests can relax and reflect. These heaters also border communal areas, ensuring warmth is evenly distributed, making every corner of the outdoor space comfortable and inviting, whether guests seek solitude or wish to connect with fellow travelers.

Throughout the resort, Tungsten heaters are strategically placed on the patio decks of guests’ private quarters, ensuring privacy and comfort. Additionally, these heaters are installed in areas where employees may be standing outside for long periods, providing warmth and comfort to the staff exposed to colder elements. As May adds, “Bromic’s commitment to enhancing outdoor experiences aligns perfectly with our ethos, making it the perfect choice for Ambiente.”

Integration and Installation – The Plan.

Building a new construction project like Ambiente Sedona presented unique opportunities to seamlessly integrate modern appliances into its resort. By planning and working closely with Bromic’s design team, the hotel had a tailored installation plan. Ambiente was able to consult with Bromic and voice their concerns and specific needs. Heat plans were drafted from Bromic’s design team to show placement and the heat blooms of both the Eclipse heaters and Tungsten heaters. Ensuring that each outdoor area of the resort was optimized for guests and their comfort.

As the resort continues to grow in popularity, plans are already underway to add more heaters, ensuring every guest enjoys a warm and comfortable stay. The installation process of Bromic heaters was seamless, Bromic’s team collaborated with Ambiente’s electrician to ensure the heaters were installed properly before the hotel’s grand opening. This careful coordination ensured that everything was in place to have a warm welcome for guests. The smooth integration of these heaters reflects the thoughtful planning and execution that went into every aspect of Ambiente’s design.

Eclipse Electric and Tungsten Electric at Pink Hill Hotel

Located in Beaconsfield, Australia, lies Pink Hill Hotel, a newly constructed live entertainment venue and local pub where you can catch-up with friends over cocktails, dine on modern Australian food, see the latest bands, or watch your favorite live sports. Complete with a variety of different new function rooms and outdoor terraces, the Pink Hill Hotel is the ultimate destination for parties, special occasions or a simple night out.

To enhance the experience for visitors and allow for the enjoyment of the outdoor spaces during the colder months, the pub sought out a heating solution that wouldn’t compromise the unique ambiance, but instead, add to it. To accomplish this, they reached out to Bromic’s Heating Experts for a thoughtful and efficient heat layout across their space. Given the large space and different rooms with varying functionalities, both the Tungsten and Eclipse Electric heaters were specified.

After evaluation of the spaces’ plans and images, Matt Kelman, Commercial Sales Manager at Bromic recommended the Eclipse Smart-Heat™ Electric and Tungsten Smart-HeatTM Electric outdoor heaters as the most efficient solutions.

Matt Kelman, Commercial Sales Manager of Bromic’s Australian office, explains the process and thought that went into their decision, “the site offered several challenges – high ceilings, operable ceilings where we could only use certain parts of the structure and angling heat towards the patrons and feature walls that heaters could not impact patrons views of.” Kelman continues, “the Eclipse Pendant was chosen for the higher fixed ceiling area – This unit could be positioned above patrons and provide a heating and light solution. The smaller sized Eclipse Pendant also did not affect the views of the feature wall.”

For more of an industrial feel, the Tungsten Electric heaters were installed, providing high heat output across the larger space. Due to the high ceilings, the 3 ft (1200mm) installation pole was recommended, suspending the heaters down within clearance to provide proper heat to the space.

In the more contemporary spaces of the pub, such as the modern dining area, the Eclipse Electric heaters were installed, providing dual-functioning heat and light for spot heating over tables, providing the ultimate in comfort and ambiance. Like the spaces where the Tungsten Electric heaters are installed, the Eclipse 24-inch (600mm) Twin Pole and a custom fabricated pole were used to ceiling mount the Eclipse Heaters for optimal heat output.

With the built-in Eclipse Dimmer Controller, setting the mood and comfort level, creating a unique experience for every guest, is as easy as the click of a button. The staff can choose from three built-in heat and light presets, ultimately providing the right amount of heat and ambiance for every guest’s specific needs.

Kelman concludes that, “in the area with the operable roof, a heater was needed that could provide a heat that would work in Melbourne’s winter and that could be positioned on structural beams and angled towards patrons – this was why the Tungsten Electric was chosen.”

Desert Mirage: Blurring the Lines Between Home and Nature

Situated in the vast Sonoran Desert of Arizona lies the city of Scottsdale, framed by the grand McDowell Mountains. This luxe city is known for its spa resorts and golf courses, serving as an inspiring backdrop influencing much of the region’s architectural landscape.

As seen on Dwell, The Modern Sunset House, a collaborative project by AFT Construction, Cosan Studio, and Alisha Taylor Interiors, pays homage to Arizona’s Desert landscape by blending architecture and nature from indoor to outdoor spaces. Featuring the Bromic Eclipse heater, this design ensures that exterior spaces remain inviting and functional throughout the year.

“We really wanted to bring the outside in and maximize space,” explains Bradley Leavitt, founder of AFT Construction. “The clients are here throughout fall, winter, and spring and they entertain frequently and spend a lot of time outside.”

Bradley Leavitt, founder of AFT Construction, highlights the aim of integrating the outdoors into the living experience, catering to the clients’ penchant for outdoor living and entertainment. The design centers around creating expansive living areas both indoors and outdoors, offering breathtaking views of the mountains and city lights.

The Eclipse Smart-Heat Electric Portable heater was chosen for its style and functional flexibility, seamlessly blending with the home’s modern aesthetic. Its sleek design and integrated dimmable LED light provide warmth and ambiance, enhancing outdoor gatherings during colder nights.

“The residents wanted convenience and luxury,” says Leavitt. “They absolutely love the Bromic Eclipse—it’s one of their favorite features. Now, they can sit out late into the evening with friends and family and optimize the outdoor seating for long into the evening. They have been using it every night!”

The Eclipse’s flexibility allows for easy relocation across the patio, complementing other outdoor features like fire pits and linear fireplaces. Using infrared heat, its innovative heat technology ensures optimal performance and efficiency, extending the usability of outdoor spaces.

“The Smart-Heat Electric Portable heater offers warmth and light during the cold winter months, and the sleek style matches the modern architecture,” says Leavitt. “The ability to adjust and easily move it makes it convenient, and the added light function means it’s possible to create a customized ambiance when entertaining.”

Large expanses of glazing and glass hallways invite the desert landscape indoors, creating a dynamic interplay between nature and architecture that evolves with the changing seasons. The Bromic Eclipse heater emerges as a beloved feature, providing comfort and luxury for the residents as they enjoy evenings with loved ones under the desert sky.

Hotel Skansen Elevates Outdoor Dining with Bromic’s Smart-Heat™ Portable Heaters

Located in Båstad, Sweden, formerly a small fishing village, is Hotel Skansen Båstad, a world-renowned resort known as a getaway destination with a warm atmosphere and vast ocean views. Complete with over 172 hotel rooms, multiple conference centers, a large spa facility with separate cold bathhouse and relatively new rooftop banquet hall, gallery and event space, there’s always something new to experience, year-round. Host of the Nordea Open, a professional tennis tournament played as a part of the ATP Tour, the Central Court of Hotel Skansen Båstad attracts a host of visitors during the summer months, and those looking for a haven of recovery during the winter.

To enhance the experience for visitors and allow for the enjoyment of the outdoor spaces during the colder months, the Hotel sought out an outdoor heating solution for their new restaurant and lounge, SAND, that wouldn’t compromise the luxurious ambiance and clientele. To accomplish this, they reached out to Bromic’s Heating Experts for a thoughtful and efficient heat layout across their outdoor areas.

After evaluation of the spaces’ plans and images, Josh Maingard, General Manager of Heating at Bromic recommended the Eclipse Smart-Heat™ Portable outdoor heaters as the most efficient solution. “We suggested the Eclipse Portable heaters as even distribution of heat was most important to Skansen. The Eclipse heater head is ‘hung’ by a mounting arm, allowing it to sit in the middle of the table, creating equal comfort for guests no matter where around the table they are seated,” says Maingard. “The light then also creates a nice ambiance, adjustable to time of day and mood setting.”

Consequently, 2 of the Eclipse Portable outdoor heaters were specified for their freestanding nature, ability to be moved to spaces being used, and dual functioning heat and light, providing patrons with ultimate comfort and ambiance.

Skansen Hotel Layout

“Outside the entrance to SAND, we have chosen to install heaters from Bromic,” remarks Siggo Plato, Assistant Restaurant Manager at Hotel Skansen Båstad. He further adds, “We use them with wireless controls, which work very well. [Additionally], they are quick to warm up, are easy to use, and can be moved around, so they have been very helpful for us.”

“This summer, these heaters have helped us a lot,” says Emmi Pålsson, Service Manager at Hotel Skansen. She continues, “since I usually work in the restaurant for breakfast service, we’ve been able to use them from 7 o’clock in the morning, and it’s fantastic to extend the day both early in the morning and late at night.”

Skansen Hotel Heat Plan

Siggo continues, “They don’t have the red light that comes with other heaters. [Instead], they have different built-in lighting that you can adjust the brightness of [for the perfect ambiance]. You can also control the percentage of heat, so guests are very satisfied, as we are, the staff.”

With the built-in Eclipse Dimmer Controller, setting the mood and comfort level, creating a unique experience for every guest, is as easy as the click of a button. The staff is able to choose from three built-in heat and light presets, ultimately providing just the right amount of heat and ambiance for every guest’s specific needs.

Siggo concludes, “I think Bromic heaters is a great option. They are stylish, attractive, easy to use, and fit well in various settings, including industrial environments and more, so we are very satisfied with them.”

The Modern Heating Solution for Vintage Upscale Dining

Building on San Clemente’s Past

Decorated with oceanic blue accents and opulent detailing, the latest iteration of the Rare Society restaurants embraces Southern California’s incredible weather. The design places wood-fired, Santa Maria style-grilling at its heart through a series of open, bright spaces. These inviting rooms encourage flow between inside and outside. In turn, the designers wanted to create dining areas that could be used during the day and at night.

Architecture Bridging History & Modern Design

Inside, rows of lights take cues from Las Vegas alongside black marble, tufted leather booths, and a gold paneled ceiling. The two-story, 5,500 sf restaurant is gilded and inviting, creating a modern dining aesthetic juxtaposed with Spanish Colonial Revival elements. This nod to the past is seen in the wood beams, Herringbone brick floors, rounded arches, and a porch arcade.

The Challenge:

The Rare Society team wanted to create a dining experience that respected the Spanish Colonial architecture while also creating warmth and usability for spaces inside and out. The team wanted to open up the dining room to embrace San Clemente’s climate and the city’s identity as a beach town. A key part of this approach was that the solution needed to seamlessly integrate with both the existing colonial revival language and modern design inside without compromising the overall appeal across all spaces.

The Solution:

Utilizing Bromic’s Platinum Electric outdoor heaters, Rare Society found a solution that could fit in with their design without distracting from the dining experience. Bromic’s premium heaters were chosen for their sleek appearance. Complementing the restaurant’s luxurious design, the heaters were able to fit seamlessly in the semi-enclosed spaces. Controlled by hardwired on/off switches, they are easy to use throughout the day. Instead of taking away from the design integrity of the space, they added to it with elegance and clarity.

Rare Society bridges the gap between high-end and casual. In doing so, guests can move between pockets all around the restaurant, from the downstairs patio, to the bar, or to look out at the ocean views from the upper patio. Extending the use of the patio spaces throughout the winter seasons, the outdoor heaters were not only included in the plan to enhance customer comfort, but they also help increase revenue.

Nestled on Avenida Del Mar, Rare Society glows as a gold-flecked showpiece that invites customers to relax and unwind. Building upon the shared style of dining that has come to define the restaurant group, the design also marries old and new architecture. The result is a true dining destination full of character, warmth, and life.
